Before we begin, let\u2019s review a list of the resources we need:<\/p>\n<h3>Software<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"\/halestudio\/\">hale\u00bbstudio version 4.1<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/haleconnect\/\">hale\u00bbconnect account<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>If you are not a hale\u00bbconnect customer, <a href=\"https:\/\/haleconnect.com\">sign-up for a free trial account<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Tutorial Data<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Source noise data. You can download the data <a href=\"https:\/\/wetransform.to\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Sample-Italy.zip\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>You can find additional examples of transformation projects and source data in the GitHub repository for END GeoPackage Encoding Standards <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/wetransform-os\/geopackage-end\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Creating a Transformation Project<\/h2>\n<h3>1. Load Source Schemas<\/h3>\n<p>Once you have successfully installed hale\u00bbstudio, launch the application on your desktop.<\/p>\n<p>If you are working with the linked source data, download the source data folder and unzip the compressed folder.<\/p>\n<p>Click on the File menu \u00bb Import \u00bb Source schema to begin loading the source data schemas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TIP:<\/strong> Select the <em>From multiple files<\/em>-tab to load more than one shapefile schema from the DF4-8-MajorRailways-IT-NoiseContours folder. Select more than one file using the Ctrl key.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wetransform.to\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/END-GeoPackage-halestudio-Screenshot-1-Import-location.png\" alt=\"hale\u00bbstudio screenshot for shapefile imports\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, load the DF4-8-MajorRailways-IT-NUTS2.xlsx file as source schema. Repeat this step three times to load each sheet from the .xlsx file. Select the sheet to import from the drop-down menu. Change the data type of the exposure fields to Integer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wetransform.to\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/END-GeoPackage-halestudio-Screenshot-2-Typename-settings.png\" alt=\"hale\u00bbstudio screenshot for typename settings\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Before moving on to the next step, save your project locally.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Load Target Schema<\/h3>\n<p>Click on the File menu \u00bb Import \u00bb Target schema to load the target data schema. The END GeoPackage templates are available in hale\u00bbstudio under the <em>From preset<\/em>-tab. Navigate to the folder entitled <strong>European Noise Directive<\/strong> and select the END DF_8 Major Railways schema.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wetransform.to\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/END-GeoPackage-halestudio-Screenshot-3-Select-schema.png\" alt=\"hale\u00bbstudio screenshot for schema selection\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>3. Complete the alignment<\/h3>\n<p>Please view the webinar demo section to review the steps required to complete the alignment.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/iJE_OQ3g1Hc\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>TIP:<\/strong> Each of the source feature types should use a Retype function to map to the corresponding feature type in the target schema. Check the <em>Structural rename<\/em> parameter for the Retype functions set on the feature types in the Excel table to automatically map all attributes that share the same name from the source to the target.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wetransform.to\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/END-GeoPackage-halestudio-Screenshot-4-Function-parameters.png\" alt=\"hale\u00bbstudio screenshot for function parameters\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can download the completed alignment transformation project <a href=\"https:\/\/wetransform.to\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/END_Demo_Project.zip\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Set export configuration<\/h3>\n<p>Users working with GeoPackage as the target schema in hale\u00bbstudio transformation projects can now use those projects in online transformation configurations on hale\u00bbconnect. Transformation projects require a custom data export configuration with GeoPackage selected as export format.<\/p>\n<p>hale\u00bbconnect first searches for custom export configurations named hale-connect and applies the export configuration if found. Next, hale\u00bbconnect searches for custom export configurations named default. Otherwise, hale\u00bbconnect will use the default configuration which exports to GML FeatureCollection.<\/p>\n<p>To apply a custom export configuration, click File \u00bb Export \u00bb Create custom data export and add your selected output file format, output CRS and any additional parameters you would like to set in the wizard.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wetransform.to\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/END-GeoPackage-halestudio-Screenshot-5-Export-format.png\" alt=\"hale\u00bbstudio screenshot for Export format\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Save your project.<\/p>\n<h2>Publishing an END-compliant GeoPackage on hale\u00bbconnect<\/h2>\n<p>The hale\u00bbconnect platform can be configured to enable users to publish, transform and validate datasets, metadata, and services within minutes. Automated workflows only need to be configured once and can be re-used multiple times by any user in an organisation. For users with data that is frequently updated, automated transformation workflows make updating and republishing view and download services easy. hale\u00bbconnect can quickly and automatically rerun transformations and republish services and metadata to reflect changes in source data.<\/p>\n<h3>1. Log-in to hale\u00bbconnect in hale\u00bbstudio<\/h3>\n<p>The integration between hale\u00bbstudio and hale\u00bbconnect enables hale\u00bbconnect users to log-in to the online platform via the hale\u00bbstudio UI to upload, update or download transformation projects. Click on File \u00bb <em>Login to haleconnect<\/em> to login. Provide your username and password.<\/p>\n<p>Next, export your completed transformation project to the hale\u00bbconnect platform. Click File \u00bb Export \u00bb hale connect project. Give your project a name and description if it is not already populated.<\/p>\n<p>Select the radio button to create a new project on hale\u00bbconnect. Select your organisation from the drop-down menu and click Finish. Your transformation project is now available online in your hale\u00bbconnect organisation at the provided link.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wetransform.to\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/END-GeoPackage-halestudio-Screenshot-6-Export-destination.png\" alt=\"hale\u00bbstudio screenshot for Export destination\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>2. Export json.hsd schema files from hale\u00bbstudio<\/h3>\n<p>Users can export GeoPackage schemas as json.hsd files from hale\u00bbstudio for use in hale\u00bbconnect. The functionality enables END (Environmental Noise Directive) implementors to validate END-conformant GeoPackages on hale\u00bbconnect.<\/p>\n<p>Before exiting the hale\u00bbstudio project, click File \u00bb Export \u00bb Source schema and select hale Schema Definition (JSON) to download the json.hsd source schema file for use in hale\u00bbconnect. Repeat the process to download the json.hsd target schema file. The .hsd file format is a native hale\u00bbstudio schema definition file.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wetransform.to\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/END-GeoPackage-halestudio-Screenshot-7-Schema-definition.png\" alt=\"hale\u00bbstudio screenshot for JSON format export\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>3. Configure an online transformation workflow in hale\u00bbconnect<\/h3>\n<p>Publishing an online transformation to generate END-compliant GeoPackages requires the configuration of multiple resources on hale\u00bbconnect. Before we begin, let\u2019s review a list of the resources we need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>hale\u00bbstudio transformation project <\/li>\n<li>json.hsd schema(s) for your source data<\/li>\n<li>json.hsd schema(s) for your target data<\/li>\n<li>source theme<\/li>\n<li>target theme<\/li>\n<li>source dataset<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Step 1: Create Schemas<\/h4>\n<p>To create a new schema based on a json.hsd file:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Go to \u201cSchemas\u201d on the main toolbar<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Go to \u201cCreate new schema\u201d at the bottom of the schema list<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select creation method. In the first step, select \u00abUpload schema file\u00bb. Click \u00abContinue\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the \u00abSelect file(s)\u00bb button and navigate to the json.hsd source schema you exported from hale\u00bbstudio. When you are finished, click \u00abContinue\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wetransform.to\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/END-GeoPackage-haleconnect-Screenshot-1-Define-schema.png\" alt=\"Screenshot for hale\u00bbconnect schema file upload\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Add information. Provide the name, author, type, and version of your schema. When you are finished, click \u00abContinue\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Confirm creation. In the final step, review your schema. You have the option to add or create a theme for your schema.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Toggle the switch to enable the creation of a theme. When you are finished, click \u00abCreate\u00bb to save the schema and create an associated theme.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Repeat the process for the target json.hsd schema file to create your target schema on hale\u00bbconnect.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Step 2: Configure source theme<\/h4>\n<p>In this step we will configure the source theme to perform an online transformation and publish webservices.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>First, navigate to the source theme you created in the previous step.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Go to \u201cThemes\u201d on the main toolbar<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Enter the name of your source theme in the search bar.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you create a theme during schema creation, your theme is automatically given the same name as your schema. You can also use the dropdown menu next to \u201cSort order\u201d. Select \u201cLast modified\u201d to view your most recent themes.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select your theme from the list of resources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Next, we will add a transformation configuration to the source theme in the Transformation section.<\/p>\n<p>A transformation configuration associates a transformation project and target theme to your source data. The configuration tells hale\u00bbconnect what to do when you upload new, or updated data. In this tutorial, we want hale\u00bbconnect to run an online transformation and publish the transformed, INSPIRE compliant GeoPackage data every time the source data is updated. Let\u2019s do that now.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Click the section named &quot;Transformation&quot;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the \u201cAdd new transformation configuration\u201d button<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wetransform.to\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/END-GeoPackage-haleconnect-Screenshot-2-GeoPackage-Source-Theme.png\" alt=\"hale\u00bbconnect screenshot to configure the GeoPackage Source Theme\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Click the \u201c+ Select project\u201d button and navigate to the transformation project you uploaded to hale\u00bbconnect.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the \u00bb button to add the transformation project.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the \u201c+ Select target theme\u201d button and navigate to the target theme you created during schema creation in the previous step. The target theme provides hale\u00bbconnect the information it needs to publish the transformed data.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click \u201cAdd configuration\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We have now added a transformation configuration to the source theme.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 3: Configure a target theme<\/h4>\n<p>In this step, we will configure the provision of INSPIRE-compliant view and download services. The target theme defines how your transformed, END GeoPackage is published. Themes enable you to choose the types of webservices which are offered (WFS, Predefined dataset, WMS), the spatial reference systems of services and much more. Let\u2019s look at some of the options now.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>First, navigate to the target theme you created during schema creation in Step 2.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Go to \u201cThemes\u201d on the main toolbar.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Enter the name of your target theme in the search bar.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you create a theme during schema creation, your theme is automatically given the same name as your schema. You can also use the dropdown menu next to \u201cSort order\u201d. Select \u201cLast modified\u201d to view your most recent themes.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select your theme from the list of resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Next, we will configure the View service settings.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click the section named View services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wetransform.to\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/END-GeoPackage-haleconnect-Screenshot-3-GeoPackage-Target-Theme.png\" alt=\"hale\u00bbconnect screenshot showing GeoPackage Target Theme configuration\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Click the \u201c+\u201d button under the default spatial reference system to add an additional spatial reference system.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Add the INSPIRE compliant spatial reference system EPSG:4258. You can edit the default spatial reference system and add as many additional spatial reference systems as you like. Your view services will be available in the spatial reference systems you configure in this setting.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the dropdown menu next to GetFeatureInfo. Activating GetFeatureInfo allows your WMS to be queried.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now let\u2019s look at the Download service settings.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Click the section named Download services<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the \u201c+\u201d button under Predefined Dataset to add an additional service type<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select WFS from the dropdown menu.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now the download services will be available as both an ATOM feed (Predefined dataset) and as WFS.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Click the \u201c+\u201d button under Shapefile 1.0 to add an additional data format<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select GML or GeoPackage from the dropdown menu.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now the Predefined dataset will offer all file types in the download options. The downloads will be available in each of the spatial reference systems you configure in the Download service settings.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wetransform.to\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/END-GeoPackage-haleconnect-Screenshot-4-GeoPackage-Target-Theme-populated.png\" alt=\"hale\u00bbconnect screenshot showing GeoPackage Target Theme configuration after latest steps\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Step 4: Create a source dataset<\/h4>\n<p>In the final step, we will create a source dataset and execute the online transformation workflow we configured in this tutorial. With both source and target themes configured, we can upload data, run an online transformation, and publish INSPIRE view and download services in just a few clicks.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Go to \u00abData\u00bb on the main toolbar<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Go to \u00abCreate new Data Set\u00bb at the bottom of the dataset list<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select your source theme to link to your dataset.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click \u00abSelect file(s)\u00bb and navigate to the tutorial data. If you are working with shapefiles, we recommend that you upload them in a .zip file.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Give your dataset a name. This name should enable you to quickly und clearly identify the dataset in the system.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Provide metadata for your dataset. There are several ways to add metadata for a dataset. For more information, visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/help.wetransform.to\/help\/en\/\">help section<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the final step, you can review the steps of the publishing and transformation process configured for the theme. You will see five toggle switches to publish download and view services for your source dataset, to transform the new dataset, and to publish services for the transformed dataset.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Activate all the toggle switches and click \u00abCreate\u00bb<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>hale\u00bbconnect will run the online transformation workflow and automatically direct you to your newly published source dataset.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To view your transformed dataset:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click the section named Transformed Data<\/li>\n<li>Click the transformation project listed in the panel<\/li>\n<li>Click the link under \u201cTarget dataset:\u201d to view your INSPIRE view and download services for your transformed GeoPackage data<\/li>\n<li>Click the View services section of your transformed dataset<\/li>\n<li>Click \u201cMap view\u201d to explore your new, transformed dataset<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In this tutorial we created an END transformation project and configured an online transformation workflow which can be reused by multiple users, as often as necessary. Once it is configured, it can be easily edited or updated to reflect your changing needs. You can update your existing hale\u00bbconnect transformation project directly from hale\u00bbstudio and edit your existing source and target themes if you require changes.
